A
2D hologram is a composite of 2-dimensional graphic layers, each set
at a different "virtual depth" in the holographic image. These
type of holograms are produced by means of layering a series of images
at different stages to generate an illusion of depth, can also be
created to produce true colour images.

Typically, these holograms create a foreground/background separation.
The hologram has both color shift and parallax from image plane to image
plane as it is moved.
2D/3D holograms are not as bright as dot matrix and require stronger,
more focused lighting for optimal viewing. The viewing angle for a 2D/3D
hologram is also narrower
