Cold
laminating film, sometimes called tape laminating uses pressure
sensitive adhesives to bind the film to the material being laminated.
This film is most important for the documents that are heat sensitive.
This film can be manufactured with anything from polyester to
polycarbonate to vinyl. The film was originated in China. Cold laminated
films are widely used for packaging. Candy wrappers, packaging pouches,
bags, gift wrappers, cosmetic packaging materials are various packaging
products made out of cold laminated films.
Cold Laminating Film provides a brilliant finish that boost color and
offers crisp definition to any image print. It provide an aggressive and
permanent bond to image print.
Cold Lamination is a process in which only one side of the document is
laminated. This lamination is done when the ink or paper used for a
document is too sensitive to heat. The surface of the document is
flooded with a water-soluble adhesive. It is then sent through a set of
rollers with the laminating film rolled onto the top of the adhesive and
the document. Pressure is applied to bond the film to the document.
Types of Cold Lamination Film
- Single-sided film is used to laminate just
one side of a document.
- Double-sided or dual laminating films
completely encase your document, laminating both sides for complete
protection.
- Magnetic laminating films apply laminate to
one side of your materials and a magnetic backing to the other.
- Transfer adhesive laminating films laminate
document on both sides, and at the same time apply an adhesive
backing. A peel-away liner reveals the adhesive. The laminated
material then can be stick to wood or glass.
- Over-laminate is a laminating film that is
applied to materials such as floor graphics, wall art, store front
signage, and children's games. Over-laminate is cut out and layed
over the material.
Cold Laminating films are available in a variety of finishes:
- Matte - This is a non-reflective finish that
has a slightly granular look. Matte finishes tend to make image
colors more vivid.
- Satin - Provides a reduced level of glare,
and has a soft sheen.
- Lustre - This finish reduces glare, and has a
sparkling sheen.
- Gloss - This is a clear finish that brings
out and emphasizes colors. It makes images look brighter, adds
definition and radiance.
