Cohesion
is defined as the ability of the adhesive to resist shear stress and
splitting. Good cohesion is necessary for clean removal. A truly
cohesive tape only sticks to itself and not to a surface. The product
leaves no residue and can be sterilized using gamma radiation or steam
methods. They are available in white and natural colours and can be
custom printed. Cohesive tapes are available without latex for all
medical devices.
Adhesive tapes are the tapes coated with adhesive. The tapes are made
of two components: a carrier, which is usually paper, plastic, cloth or
rubber, and an adhesive, which is either water or solvent, based. When
pressure is applied to the tape with finger, a strong adhesive is
formed. Adhesive tapes stick to the surface.
Cohesive adhesive tapes are the strongest of all tapes. These cohesive
adhesive tape offer good adhesion to the specimen and yield good
conductivity and background structures, even with small size particles.
They are formulated for high cohesive and adhesive strength. They are
easy to handle and produce minimum gas under vacuum conditions. They
have minimum impurities in them.
Cohesive adhesive tapes are widely used in medical devices, automotive
industry, machine sealing, coiling machines, and film laminating.
