Clamshell Packaging refers to a formed plastic package used mainly to encapsulate and boldly merchandize retail products. It is a folding package that can be opened and resealed. This is ideal for a product that may need to be examined before the sale or for a product that may be returned to the store because the customer purchased the wrong model or style.

Clamshell is a box shaped container that is thermoformed from transparent plastic with two hinged jaws. The word clamshell hence indicates that the formed package has one or more hinges. A single hinged clamshell usually includes a hanger tab that allows the finished product to hang on a pegboard.
