Clamshell
Packaging refers to a formed plastic package used mainly to encapsulate
and boldly merchandize retail products. It is a folding package that can
be opened and resealed. This is ideal for a product that may need to be
examined before the sale or for a product that may be returned to the
store because the customer purchased the wrong model or style.
Clamshell is a box shaped container that is thermoformed from
transparent plastic with two hinged jaws. The word clamshell hence
indicates that the formed package has one or more hinges. A single
hinged clamshell usually includes a hanger tab that allows the finished
product to hang on a pegboard. A multi-hinged clamshell can offer
additional features such as a freestanding base on the package. By
adding a base to the package it allows the product to stand on its own.
Features
Clamshell packages combine protection with outstanding visibility. The
product is displayed in a blister type function in the front and a clear
back allowing 100% viewing of the product. The packaging is available in
an almost infinite range of size and shape, making them applicable for a
multitude of product types. It offers a cost-effective way to package a
product in small, medium, and large runs.
Applications
Organic salads, fruits, strawberries are all available in clamshell
packaging. The packaging is used in a variety of bakery, deli and
foodservice applications. Used for display or in golf ball cartoons for
secure fit. Battery chargers and battery come in clamshell packaging.
Clamshell packaging along with colorful graphics and names are easy to
spot, stock, display and sell.
Clamshell packaging is also used in several other applications
including electronics, plumbing, car phone accessories, sporting goods,
medical equipment, etc.
