Laminating Material
Laminating Material
29 November 2010- Lamination is used to pack both food as well as non food items for an extra level of protection. Of all kinds of laminations plastic lamination has visual appeal along with its ability to act as moisture, air and gas barrier. This protects the enclosed item from any kind of exterior damage. Along with this it is also a cost effective method of lamination. Along with this sustainable lamination is also catching up these days in addition to other plastic packaging as this is made from recycled material like paper and cardboard.

Most of the laminators are made from heat or thermal lamination process. It consists of multiple layers of films that have a polyester base and resin. With heat, resin melts down and spread over the entire surface of the film with the help of pressure. There are many materials that are used for lamination. But the common ones are discussed here.

OPP Films

OPP films are also called Oriented polypropylene (OPP or BOPP) films that have great gloss, stiffness and clarity. BOPP films are so designed that these are perfect for label applications and flexible packaging. OPP is actually an oriented polypropylene that is derived from polypropylene polymer.

BOPP films are applied in lamination both for horizontal as well as vertical machines. You can also use it for decorative purposes. These are also used for gift packing, making flower bouquet, textile packing and release films. BOPP films are also used in the production of pouch packaging, industrial packaging and electronic packaging.

Metallized Films

Metallized films are the barrier material that is similar to OPP films. It acts as gas as well as water barrier. To make these films, aluminum is attached to the flexible plastic films. Apart from aluminum, metallized films can also be made from chromium or combination of nickel and chromium. These are used for adhesive lamination and extrusion. It is also used in place of aluminum foil in three-ply laminations cold seal coated. Chiefly these films are used for food packaging but these are also used for pharma packaging, as aluminum foil, aluminum wraps, and cosmetic packaging.

CPP Films

Cast polypropylene (CPP) is used is variety of applications such as flow wraps twist films and countless other such applications. It is also used along with BOPP films to laminate food articles. This makes the heat resistant layer. You can buy both the polished glossed as well as matte finish films.

Anti leak layer of the diaper is also made from CPP films. This is transparent film
packaging that is perfect to be used as packaging bags and pouch packaging for food items. Also these are used in textile wrapping. Also the trays containing fresh vegetables and fruits are packed with CPP films.
